Solid Poplar wood is used for each wooden dog crate. Poplar wood is a lightweight, smooth grained wood species commonly found throughout the USA and is considerably less expensive than hardwoods such as Oak or Maple.



(2) coats of highly pigmented finish (a hybrid paint/stain finish) from Sherwin Williams cover the natural variations in grain pattern and color found in poplar wood for a uniform appearance. The Mahogany color is a very dark brown, almost espresso.

Poplar wood may contain a few small, smooth knots which enhance the character of your new pet furniture. You can rest assured that it will never be mistaken for the mass produced wooden pet furniture that you see in discount stores.

Decorative panels are constructed using old school, mortise & tenon style joints (no staples, pins or nails). After the Sherwin Williams finish is applied, each wooden dog crate is then sealed and sprayed with a water based (non toxic) finish for a beautifully smooth, satin (low luster) look.

The decorative End Table pet crate features a swing through door that can be fastened shut with the included hardware, or rotated inside the crate to provide open access for your pet. This is a great option if you want to use your wood dog crate as a dog house or home for your pet.

The easy to clean (Extira brand) dog crate floor eliminates stains and odors and is sized to accommodate standard dog crate cushions and mats. Extira products are used in exterior home construction applications - they resist moisture, rot and offer excellent protection for your wooden dog crate floor from pet "accidents". Shipped disassembled with a separate bag for the hardware (be sure to check both ends of the box) and directions enclosed. Assembly is easy using just a handful of wood screws - see the assembly instruction manual link above.

Important Note -- is your dog a digger, scratch-er or a chewer? Consider the recommendation below on "how to help prevent damage" to the interior panels of your new wood dog crate. In addition, you may want to consider the following model -- wooden dog crate -- which was designed specifically to help minimize damage from energetic pets.

Recommendation to prevent damage to panels & slats:
If you think your dog may damage the panels of the wooden dog crate please consider using Plexiglas inserts. We have had customers insert Plexiglas panels on the inside of the wood dog crate slats with very good success.
(held in place with screws through pre-drilled holes).

Have your local hardware store cut the Plexiglas panels one inch shorter than the interior measurements. This allows for good air flow while still protecting the wooden panels. Please call us if you need more details.
